Normal Blood Pressure

The normal average blood pressure is 120 mm systolic and 80 mm diastolic. This is the average blood pressure and not the absolute normal. If we were to check 100 normal individuals this would be the average blood pressure. This does not mean that everyone will have exactly 120 mm systolic and 80 mm diastolic blood pressure. Anything in the range of 110 and 130 mm systolic and 70 to 90 mm diastolic can be considered within range.

High Blood Pressure or Hypertension

When the blood pressure shoots above 140 mm systolic and 90 mm diastolic, we consider it as high. This is what we call high blood pressure or  hypertension. One reading of high blood pressure is not sufficient to label a person as having hypertension or high blood pressure. One should take at least 3 readings at 3 different occasions before telling a person that he is having high blood pressure.

Symptoms of High Blood Pressure or Hypertension

There are lots of myths regarding blood pressure or hypertension. A common misperception is that when blood pressure rises one gets headache or starts getting irritable or angry. This is not the truth. The truth is that high blood pressure is unlikely to have any symptoms. The good part is that by reversing these lifestyle changes, one can control one’s blood pressure.

  • Start walking daily for 40-45 minutes.
  • Drink a lot of water.
  • Cut down on intake of salty or fried food. Avoid junk food and processed foods.

    I am 72 years old , male . About two weeks back I had to visit the hospital due to a Stomach pain , while taking vitals , they found my BP was 95/190.
    I was given emergency treatment and sent home with an advise to take EASYDAY 50mg every day.

It is good.

  80. I first developed high blood pressure at 36 during pregnancy. The high BP pressure did not go away after giving birth, I took labetalol for 3 months postpartum and BP got back to normal. I then had another pregnancy at 38 and blood pressure was an issue entire pregnancy, I am now 9 months postpartum and high BP is an issue. I average 160 over 130 and developed a leak in my heart so I went on Metroprolol which makes me feel very sick. I am Breastfeeding so that somewhat limits what I can take to treat my high BP.   117. I was recently diagnosed with exercise-induced high blood pressure. I have cut out all wheat and other starches with the exception of an occasional serving of rice or oatmeal. I have increased fruits and vegetables, water intake, etc. I avoid all processed foods.
