A skin disease that worsens every winters is Psoriasis. A patient suffering from psoriasis dreads the winters just because of this. He or she tends to remain well throughout the summers. As the weather starts to cool, he starts worrying. The worry is not unfounded. The skin of the psoriasis patient can get quite bad. It itches badly and even starts bleeding after scratching. There are large patches of eruptions with whitish scale formation on the top of the skin.
What is Psoriasis
Psoriasis is an autoimmune inflammatory skin disease in which the skin cells proliferate profusely. The rate of formation of the skin cells is far higher than normal. It can even be 1000 times the normal rate. Due to this increased rate of formation of skin cells, the immature cells keep getting pushed on to the surface of the skin. That is why the skin cells are large, whitish flakes like that of dandruff.
What are the symptoms of Psoriasis
- The inflammation of the skin causes redness and itching. In fact, it is itching which is the most troublesome for the patient. At times there is so much itching that one is forced to scratch till it bleeds and becomes raw.
- The skin becomes worse in winters. The psoriasis patients are relatively better in summer. When the weather becomes warm, the skin improves on its own. As winter approaches, the skin lesions start surfacing. It is not only the itching that troubles the patient.
- The appearance of the skin can be quite bad. This makes the patient feel shy about his or her appearance. This is more so if the arms or legs or hands or face or scalp are affected.
- In some cases, the joints also get affected. This is known as psoriatic arthritis. There may be pain and swelling in the joints along with skin lesions.
What causes Psoriasis
Although it is understood that certain conditions tend to aggravate Psoriasis, the exact cause of Psoriasis is still not clear. A few known factors that can aggravate Psoriasis are as follows-
- Obesity-Being overweight is known to be an important contributing factor.
- Stress- Mental stress can be another factor which tends to increase the symptoms of psoriasis.
- Injury- Any injury to a particular body part can cause psoriasis to develop there.
- Drugs- Some medicines are also known to increase the incidence of this problem.
- Skin dryness- If the skin is dry, the itching and flake formation tends to increase.
Psoriasis is not infectious- It does not spread from one person to another
A common myth that persists with general people is that psoriasis may spread from one patient to another healthy person by contact. Here one needs to understand that psoriasis is not contagious. This means that it cannot spread from one person to another. In fact, psoriasis is not an infectious disease. It does not occur due to infection of any sort. That is why it does not spread from one person to another.
Treatment of Psoriasis
When it comes to the treatment of psoriasis, it is a general perception that it is incurable. This perception is not exactly right. It is based on the view and experience of the allopathic system in the treatment of psoriasis. The mainstay of the allopathic system of medicine in psoriasis happens to be steroids. The regular or prolonged use of steroids is counter productive and can produce a lot of side effects. This is in direct contrast with the homeopathic system. In the homeopathic system there are no side effects at all.
Psoriasis treatment in Homeopathy- Natural Homeopathic remedies for Psoriasis
Homeopathy is far more effective in the treatment of psoriasis and these homeopathic medicines are completely natural and do not contain any chemical compounds at all. The homeopathic remedies do not intend to suppress this inflammation.
In fact, they intend to correct the cause that has resulted in this indiscriminate cell division and also the inflammation. Once these two things are set right, the symptoms disappear on their own. The skin lesions clear up and the skin starts looking normal as if nothing had ever happened.
Homeopathy for Psoriasis – permanent treatment of Psoriasis
The treatment of psoriasis with homeopathic medicines has a very significant advantage over any other form of treatment. While other forms of treatment are just palliative in nature, homeopathic treatment of psoriasis is permanent. This means that once the patient is cured, there is no return of symptoms. He or she can live a disease free and medicine free life.
5 best Homeopathic medicines for Psoriasis
At the very outset, I wish to state that when it comes to treating Psoriasis with Homeopathy, it requires some patience on the part of both the patient and the doctor to get good results in the homeopathic treatment of psoriasis. That is essentially because of the nature of the disease and not because of any shortcoming of the homeopathic system of medicine.
Psoriasis is an inveterate disease and can cause a lot of trouble and anxiety to the affected patient. That is why I am saying that it requires some patience on the part of the patient and doctor.
Often patients start treatment and expect instant results from the treatment. They complain and whine to the doctor that their problem is not getting cured. This puts pressure on the doctor and if he is not experienced enough, he ends up changing the line of treatment under pressure from the patient. This can often lead to a golden chance of cure of psoriasis being missed.
